The Summer Camp Program at Oak Hill

The OHM Summer Camp  provides a healthy balance of physical movement, academic exploration, and joyful investigation of the outdoors.

OHM 2010 Summer Camp Program

Join us! Explore, discover, learn and grow during our summer camps. We offer Half-day Camps for ages 3-5 and Full-day Camps for ages 3-5 and 6-11. Camp sessions run from June 21 - August 20, 2010. Click on the image for the camp catalog.

Child Care for our current OHM students will be offered the weeks of June 14-18 and August 23-27.

 

 

Camp Highlights


June 21 - 25:
Week 1 - Around the World

 

A fun week of learning about many cultures. The Twin Cities is a wonderful melting pot of cultures which include Hmong, Hispanic, Somali, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Indian, Swedish, Italian, French and German. We'll explore other traditions, food, crafts and more!

 

  • Learn about the different languages
  • Explore climate and outdoor environments
  • Discover the unique music
  • Host a world meal - sample foods
  • Look at what is the same and different: homes, schools, play, family and clothing

 

 

June 28 - July 2:
Week 2 - Great Outdoor Adventure

 

Engaging outdoor activities that will get your child interested in the great outdoors. We'll investigate nature from top to bottom.

 

  • Learn camping skills including fire building, outdoor cooking and putting up your tent
  • Explore the outdoors through hiking and biking (Elementary Level)
  • The fun of outdoor games - scavenger hunt, popcorn cup and other great games
  • Strawberry picking
  • Discover the great outdoors surrounded by plants, trees and wide open spaces
 

July 6 - 9:
Week 3 - Rock Star Camp

 

It's music and dance week at Oak Hill! Explore the many sounds of music and the many forms of dance. Discover your favorites!

 

  • Explore how artists express ideas and values through art
  • Write songs, perform, line dance and sing karaoke
  • Discover relationships among art disciplines (art/music/dance)
  • Learn to sing and listen
  • Dress up day and Crazy hair day
  • Have fun with musical instruments

 

July 12 - 16:
Week 4 - Magical Imagination

 

Explore the world of fantasy, make believe and storytelling. This week combines the fantasy of storytelling while we explore various time periods.

 

  • Explore the world of fantasy and make believe
  • Write an imaginative story as a class and perform it at the end of the week
  • Make costumes, dress up and be transformed
  • Create treasure boxes, puppets, crowns, fairy necklaces amd much more
  • Storytelling and castle building
  • Learn to make edible wands
 

July 19 - 23:
Week 5 - Wet - N - Wild
!!!!

 

A week of fun in the water! Jump, splash and slide while exploring water.

 

  • Swimming, sprinklers, water balloons and slip and slide
  • Fun at the beach
  • Bucket blast game, water transfer and squirt guns
  • Different art techniques using watercolors, bubbles, sand, shells and more
  • Special visit from the fire department
  • Solids and liquids -- popsicles and jello with fish
  • Ships and boats and what floats

 

 

July 26 - 30:
Week 6 - Land Before Time

 

Its rocks, fossils, the first drawings.... and other exciting information about long ago. Where did those dinosaurs go?

 

  • Fossil hunting in St. Paul at Lilydale Park
  • Create and design your own dinosaur
  • How to make your own fossil
  • Herbavoire / carnivoire game
  • What do dinosaurs eat?
  • Dinosaur rubbings, footprints and eggs
  • Explore the world's first art - cave paintings
  • Volcanos and more

 

August 2 - 6:
Week 7 - Zoo-utopia

 

Discovering the fascinating world of animals from fur to feathers.

  • Visit the Zoo
  • Explore animal tracks and prints
  • What do service animals do?
  • Have fun with yoga - animal positions
  • Learn how to make treats for your furry and feathered friends
  • Animal friends come to visit
  • Fish printing
 

August 9 - 13
Week 8 - Give Art - A - Whirl!

 

Discover your artistic passion. Painting, arts and crafts and so much more!

  • Design and build a boat and set sail!!
  • Learn the craft of felting
  • Discover the art of dying fabrics
  • Explore the world of painting and drawing
  • Beads, beads, beads....Learn how to make and their many uses
 

August 16 - 20
Week 9 - Wide World of Sports

 

We'll keep them moving and active through a variety of sports and physical education.

  • Develop skills
  • Learn game strategies and work as a team
  • Explore basketball, volleyball, hockey, racquet sports just to name a few
  • Healthy choices - select, make and enjoy fun and easy snacks
  • Disc games, obstacle courses, chicken games and much, much more...

Emergencies

PLEASE BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR CHILD'S EMERGENCY INFORMATION CURRENT. If your child has an emergency at school, we will call you at work or at home. If you experience an emergency at home or work and need to get in touch with your child, please call Joan at 651-233-9224 so that you can get through to your child. Please note this number is ONLY for emergencies and is only active from June 21 - August 20. All other non-emergency call should be directed to the main office at 651-484-8242.
