Destination ImagiNation®

Formerly known as Odyssey of the Mind, Destination ImagiNation® is a worldwide competitive program run by a nonprofit organization for teams of up to seven K-12 students in which students are asked to think creatively as a team. The Destination ImagiNation® program helps kids build important lifelong skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and divergent thinking.

Teams solve two types of Challenges within the program year. Challenge themes include: improv/transportation research, technical/design of a vehicle, technical/invention, theater/sound effects and technical/bridge construction.

The Central Team Challenge involves structure, technical or theatrical oriented Challenges and takes several months to solve.
Throughout that time the teams also practice improvisational Instant Challenges, which stimulate the team's ability to think quickly and creatively with only minutes to prepare solutions.

The Destination ImagiNation® year culminates with a series of tournaments during which teams demonstrate their unique solutions to packed audiences and panels of appraisers. Teams may compete at the local, regional and affiliate level for the chance to compete at Global Finals, the ultimate tournament that matches wit against ingenuity and perseverance against gut instinct!

You can find much useful information about the program at www.dini.org or at Minnesota's affiliate website, www.mndi.org.

D.I. is 100% volunteer-driven, though the solutions to the challenges MUST be 100% CHILD-DRIVEN. If you are interested in learning more about this program at Oak Hill Montessori, please contact the school office.
