National/International AMI Organizations

Association Montessori Internationale (AMI)

AMI was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori. AMI activities include: coordinating Training of Teachers program, encouraging creation of Montessori schools, guiding manufacturers recognized by AMI in production of approved Montessori materials, overseeing publication of Dr. Montessori's books, organizing congresses and study conferences, affiliating Montessori Societies, publishing the magazine "Communications" and maintaining a website.

North American Montessori Teachers Association (NAMTA)

NAMTA, a membership organization, was founded in 1970 to maintain traditional Montessori methods while incorporating modern innovations in education. NAMTA provides a medium of study, interpretation and improvement of Montessori education through publications, audio-visual collection, electronic communications, conferences and research and service projects throughout North America and the world. NAMTA endeavors to provide real services in response to the needs of teachers, schools and parents.
